DQ500 Transmission Control Unit Faulty – Repair for P1735, P1736, P175D, P175E, P176E and P176F

DQ500 Getriebesteuergerät defekt – Reparatur bei P1735, P1736, P175D, P175E, P176E und P176F

Walther Vega |

In short: Faults P1735, P1736, P175D, P175E, P176E and P176F on a DQ500 DSG indicate a defect in the transmission control unit – affecting the position sensors or activation of clutch 1 and 2. Usually the complete mechatronic unit does not need replacing: Compramas repairs your original control unit at a fixed price of €320.

Is your DQ500 DSG 7-speed transmission control unit faulty and the fault memory shows faults such as P1735, P1736, P175D, P175E, P176E or P176F? Then there may be a defect inside the transmission control unit or the electronic mechatronics.

At Compramas you can have your existing DQ500 transmission control unit repaired. Your original control unit is tested, the identified fault area is repaired and the unit then undergoes a function test.

A repair can be an economical alternative to replacing the complete DSG mechatronic unit or buying a new transmission control unit.

What is the DQ500 transmission?

The DQ500 is a 7-speed dual-clutch transmission from the Volkswagen Group and, depending on vehicle and version, is used in various models from Volkswagen, Audi, SEAT and Škoda.

The transmission control unit handles, among other things, the electronic control of the clutches and individual gear changes. If internal signals are no longer processed correctly or position values are recorded incorrectly, transmission faults, warning messages or limp mode can occur.

Typical fault codes on the DQ500 transmission control unit

Common fault codes include:

  • P1735 – clutch 1 position sensor, electrical fault
  • P1736 – clutch 2 position sensor, electrical fault
  • P175D – clutch 1 opens unintentionally
  • P175E – clutch 1 closes unintentionally
  • P176E – clutch 2 opens unintentionally
  • P176F – clutch 2 closes unintentionally

Other faults related to the DQ500 mechatronics, clutch control or transmission control can also indicate a defect in the control unit.

If your fault code is not listed here, you can contact us in advance.

Fault P1735 – clutch 1 position sensor

Fault code P1735 indicates an electrical fault in the position sensor for clutch 1.

The transmission control unit needs precise position information to control the clutch correctly. If there is an internal electronic fault, these signals can no longer be processed reliably.

Possible symptoms are:

  • DSG warning message
  • transmission in limp mode
  • restricted gear selection
  • Shifting problems
  • jerky gear changes
  • vehicle may no longer pull away properly

Fault P1736 – clutch 2 position sensor

With P1736 – clutch 2 position sensor, electrical fault there is a comparable problem with the second clutch.

Here, too, the cause may lie within the DQ500 transmission control unit or its electronic signal processing.

The fault may occur permanently or at first sporadically and become more pronounced as the defect progresses.

P175D and P175E – clutch 1 faults

The fault codes

P175D – clutch 1 opens unintentionally

and

P175E – clutch 1 closes unintentionally

indicate problems with the activation or monitoring of the first clutch.

The control unit detects a clutch position or clutch state that does not match the requested position.

Possible effects are:

  • unintended opening or closing of the clutch
  • Shifting problems
  • jerky driving behaviour
  • DSG limp mode
  • fault message in the instrument cluster
  • restricted driveability

P176E and P176F – clutch 2 faults

For the second clutch, the faults

P176E – clutch 2 opens unintentionally

and

P176F – clutch 2 closes unintentionally

may occur, among others.

Here, too, a defect within the electronic transmission control may be responsible.

Since the two clutches are responsible for different gear groups, faults can affect driving and shifting behaviour differently depending on the clutch affected.

Typical symptoms of a faulty DQ500 transmission control unit

A defect in the DQ500 DSG control unit can show itself, for example, through the following symptoms:

  • DSG warning light or transmission warning message
  • transmission goes into limp mode
  • vehicle no longer shifts properly
  • individual gears are missing
  • jerky or harsh gear changes
  • clutch opens or closes unintentionally
  • vehicle no longer pulls away correctly
  • fault occurs sporadically
  • fault reappears after clearing
  • fault codes P1735 or P1736
  • fault codes P175D, P175E, P176E or P176F

As similar symptoms can also have other causes, a professional diagnosis should be carried out before the repair.

Does the complete DQ500 mechatronic unit have to be replaced?

Not necessarily.

If the actual transmission control unit has an electronic defect, a targeted repair is often sufficient. This can avoid replacing a complete DSG mechatronic unit or an expensive new part.

With the repair, your existing original unit is retained.

This is particularly advantageous because the control unit remains assigned to the original vehicle. Depending on the specific scope of the repair, re-coding or adaptation can often be avoided.

Have your DQ500 transmission control unit repaired

At Compramas you send in your existing DQ500 transmission control unit for testing and repair.

After receipt the unit is first diagnosed. This checks whether the fault described is present and whether a repair is possible.

After approval, the control unit is repaired and then tested.

You receive your own repaired original unit back.

DQ500 in VW, Audi, SEAT and Škoda

The DQ500 and corresponding variants are used in various vehicles of the Volkswagen Group.

Depending on model year and vehicle equipment, vehicles from the following manufacturers, among others, may be affected:

  • Volkswagen
  • Audi
  • SEAT
  • Škoda

However, repairability does not depend solely on the vehicle model. Above all, the part number of the transmission control unit and the stored fault code must be taken into account.

How the DQ500 repair works

1. Order the repair

Order the matching DQ500 transmission control unit repair through our online shop.

2. Remove the control unit

Have the transmission control unit or the corresponding unit removed professionally.

3. Send in the unit

Pack the control unit securely and with sufficient padding.

Enclose the complete order documents and, if possible, an exact fault description in the parcel.

4. Diagnosis

After receipt we carry out a diagnosis and fault analysis of the DQ500 control unit sent in.

5. Feedback

After testing we inform you about the result and the further repair process.

6. Repair

After approval, the identified fault area is professionally repaired.

7. Function test and return shipping

After the repair the control unit is tested and then sent back to you.

What should you note before sending it in?

For the most accurate identification, we ideally need:

  • vehicle manufacturer
  • vehicle model
  • model year
  • part number of the transmission control unit
  • transmission code letters, if available
  • fault codes read out
  • exact description of the symptoms

A suitable fault description would be, for example:

“DQ500 transmission goes into limp mode. Fault P1735 clutch 1 position sensor electrical fault is permanently stored.”

Requirements for a repair

The DQ500 control unit sent in must be complete and, if possible, in its original condition.

Units that may not be repairable, or only to a limited extent, include those that:

  • have already been opened
  • show previous improper repair attempts
  • have severe mechanical damage
  • show water or corrosion damage
  • have fire damage
  • are sent in incomplete

Whether the unit can ultimately be repaired can only be determined after the unit sent in has been tested.
